  3.     I enjoyed your piece on Boston University President John
  4. Silber and his new book, Straight Shooting (EDUCATION, Aug. 28).
  5. As a student at the University of Texas in 1969, I observed a
  6. debate between Silber and an "activist" professor and was struck
  7. by the contrast of Silber's incisive intellect with the visceral
  8. responses of his opponent. From the similar tone of the comments
  9. of B.U.'s Freda Rebelsky Camp, who accuses Silber of running a
  10. "sleazy, fascist regime," it appears that intellectual poverty
  11. remains alive and well in academia, yet another argument for the
  12. educational reforms advocated by Silber.
